ANT+ iPhone App
I have been looking for sometime for a cycling training app that will work on my iPhone using the wireless standard ANT+. Until recently, all I saw online were rumors and others talking about the idea.
It now looks like there are three companies out there that will seriously be producing iPhone Apps that will work with ANT+ devises.
Wahoo Fitness and Digifit are both selling their Apps and hardware, while Pedal Brain looks to be another 3-6 months out. Although, I do think Pedal Brain is making the superior product that will be worth the wait.
ANT+ iPhone/ iPod Touch Cycling Computers
Wahoo Fitness www.wahoofitness.com
App Store Download (free)
ANT+ Adapter Needed $79.99
Wahoo looks to have limited ability to track data overtime or export it to something that could, but the price for the total system is only $79 and that is well below the cost of any cycling computer that will do the same.
Digifit’s iPower www.digifit.me
App Store Download ($39.99)
Needed ANT+ Adapter ($79.99)
Digifit does offer some basic on-screen analysis, but nothing a hardcore power training cyclist would be interested in. At $120 for the whole system, this is right on the edge for me of buying a Bontrager Node or some other cycling computer that will display all the same information for about $90
Pedal Brain en.pedalbrain.com
Pedal Brain is not on the market yet, but from their website / blog you can see that they almost are. I have no idea what the price will be, but from the photos this looks like a very well put together system that will directly send all of your power data to a cycling coach or display in large useable graphs.
I personally am going to hold out till Pedal Brain hits the market, but if your are looking for a lower cost system that is fun and supports social media apps / networks I would have to recommend Wahoo Fitness.
Unlike the other two products mentioned the Wahoo Fitness dongle will work with many different apps. Making their API available to the app developer community many fitness apps are integrating ANT+ capability. They also have a case along with the dongle… Seems like it’s the best way to go, not limiting yourself to one app. Disclosure: No surprise, I work for wahoo. Our full Fisica Fitness demo app, as opposed to the tester app that you saw, will be in the app store soon showing off the full capabilities of the fisica sensor key and case.
